Badgerland 24 Hour Track run – Personal fundraiser for Wounded Warrior Project.  This is a short note I sent to all who donated.   Well the race has come and gone. Before I go into any details I want to thank everyone again and say that the run and the fund raiser was a success. On the fund raising end I officially raised $2070. There were a few offline donations that I did not get credit for, nor do I know the amount. I've got no problem with that, as long as WWP got more funds to help out the soldiers that need help.   Thursday before the race I drove down to Nashville to rendezvous with the dad and step mom (The Crew from here on out).  I say rendezvous, but really I ate their food, used their cable and made them drive me to the race in Chattanooga TN. It's so much easier to run a race if you don't have to worry about any logistical details that don't  involve the race itself.  We went to Rock Creek outfitters for the packet pick-up on Friday evening.    The guys really ran with the name of the race, the shirt and run number were handed to me in a vomit bag (same as what's in the back of the airplane seats).  The shirt is a dark blue … [Read more...]

I flew into TX Thursday so I'd have all day Friday to lounge around, be lazy and do nothing.  Thursday I did an easy 3 miles on the trial to get a feel for it.  Met some of the local runners while I was there and ran with them, they told me all about the local run scene, local trails... general run stuff.  Friday my crew (dad and stepmom) arrived from Nashville, we did the packet pick up then a big dinner.   Saturday October 11th, 2008 was my first real endeavor towards an ultra run.  The Heartland 50 in Cassody, KS.  I arrived in KS Thursday afternoon where I met up with my brother Justin (nicknamed "the kid) who was there to crew for me. We hopped in the rental and headed to the hotel.  We tooled around Emporia KS Thursday evening and Saturday morning to kill some time.  Friday afternoon we headed to Cassody to scope out the course and make sure we know where I need to be the next morning.  The race start was 40 minutes from the hotel and it started at 6AM, needed to leave real early.   I ran in the Youngstown OH Ultra Trail Classic 50k. This was my first ultra run (hopefully of many) and I had an absolute blast running this - had some issues, but overall it was great. I arrived very late on Thursday evening (about 2am local time).  I spent Friday lounging around the hotel, watching TV, doing a little work on the laptop - just trying to take it easy and rest.  Had a good prerace dinner at O'Charley's with my dad and step mom who came to the race from Nashville  to crew and cheer.  Thanks to all the nervous jitters and excitement about the upcoming race, I didn't sleep all the well Friday night before the race, … [Read more...]
